Resident in Counseling
David Dowdy is passionate about helping individuals and families navigate life’s challenges with support, clarity, and purpose. His background in psychology and counseling reflects a commitment to helping others feel heard, understood, and empowered. David earned his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and his Master’s degree in Professional Counseling from Southeastern University. He is a Resident in Counseling and working under the supervision of Dr. Susanne Preston-Josey.
In addition to his clinical training, David brings over 10 years of experience working in the school system, primarily in elementary settings, with additional experience supporting middle and high school students. He also has a background in American Sign Language (ASL) and experience working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals.
David enjoys working with adolescents, families, and individuals seeking growth and healing from concerns such as anxiety, depression, life transitions, and substance use, and values the importance of a strong, genuine therapeutic relationship. He takes a person-centered, trauma-informed approach and incorporates evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to support meaningful, lasting change. He offers both in-person and virtual appointments, and has availability afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
